“Burn the idea into the consciousness of every man that he can get well regardless of anyone. The only condition is that he trust in God and clean house.”

“Burn the idea into the consciousness of every man that he can get well regardless of anyone. The only condition is that he trust in God and clean house.” Alcoholics Anonymous (1939) · Chapter 7 · Working With Others
Where it comes from

From the close of Chapter 7 — instructions for talking with a newcomer whose home life is still in chaos.

Today’s reflection

Recovery that depends on circumstances isn’t recovery; it’s a weather forecast. The book’s claim is bolder: well regardless of anyone — the spouse who doubts you, the boss who remembers, the friend still drinking. Other people get a vote on your day, but not on your sobriety. The two conditions listed are both inside jobs: trust, and housecleaning. Everything outside that fence is scenery.

Delaware Recovery: Common Questions

How much does sober living cost in Delaware?
Sober living in Delaware typically costs $500-$3,000 per month depending on location, amenities, and structure level. Shared rooms range $500-$1,200/month while private rooms and luxury facilities can cost $2,000-$5,000/month. See the full Delaware cost breakdown →
What is the difference between sober living and rehab?
Rehab provides intensive clinical treatment including therapy, medical care, and detox services, typically lasting 30-90 days. Sober living homes are transitional residences providing structured, substance-free environments focusing on real-world reintegration while maintaining sobriety with peer support.
How long do people stay in sober living homes?
The average stay is 3-6 months, though many residents stay 6-12 months or longer. Research shows longer stays (90+ days) significantly improve long-term recovery outcomes.
What should I look for when choosing a sober living home?
Key factors include: house rules and structure that match your needs, regular drug testing policies, location near Delaware support groups and employment, qualified staff, positive peer community, clear pricing with no hidden fees, and NARR certifications.
How do I find the right recovery program in Delaware?
Consider the type of treatment needed (detox, inpatient, outpatient, sober living), insurance coverage, location preferences, and specialized programs. Browse directory listings in Delaware and call providers to confirm current availability, services, and payment options.
Do facilities in Delaware accept insurance?
Many treatment centers and detox facilities in Delaware accept major insurance plans including Medicaid, Medicare, Blue Cross, Aetna, Cigna, and UnitedHealthcare. Sober living homes typically require private pay but some partner with treatment centers for covered clinical components.
